Episode 1
In this LGRADIO.ONLINE series, we’ll be hearing the biggest stars in music doing what they do best – performing live in concert. We’ll hear how the artists and their songs travelled from the studio to the stage, enjoying some of the greatest live performances of all time, hearing in this episode, from the East Midlands Gas Board’s greatest singing boiler fitter, live at the Fillmore East in 1970, then we’re off to Harlem to check in on James Brown before we drop in on an historic Parisian night from the 1960s, before finishing up at Carnegie Hall to hear the great Bill Withers, In Concert.
Episode 2
This episode of the show where we follow artists and their songs, from the studio to the stage, finds us first of all, in a small club in Hamburg. Then we’ll be at the Rainbow Theatre in London, for the Van Morrison’s very first show in London as a solo artist and then we’re off to Oakland California to hear one of the greatest soul voices in history, with a recording from a live album that very nearly didn’t get released. Plus we’ll hear an In Concert version from Simon & Garfunkel, with the hit song that Paul Simon felt disappointed with.
Episode 3
In Concert begins this episode with a trip to one of the most important live venues of London’s Swinging 60s – the club when the young musicians of the Stones, the Who, Kinks, Jeff Beck Group, Clapton, Page and Plant and all the others, went to listen and watch and learn, from the great Georgie fame, the man who had the best Rhythm & Blues band of the time, at the legendary Flamingo Club. Then we’re off to Leeds to hear perhaps the greatest live album of 1970, followed by a trip across the Atlantic, to America’s legendary Winterland Ballroom to drop in on The Last Waltz. Then we’ll drop in on a Californian prison in 1968, before finishing up with an astonishingly moving live performance from Bruce Springsteen’s epic Broadway residency of 2017 – this episode sums up why we decided to celebrate the great live performances, all of the recordings you’ll hear, could never have been captured in a regular studio situation – the live environments these artists found themselves in, was completely and utterly different from any studio set up – enjoy!!
Episode 4
In this episode, we’re In Concert with Neil Diamond in L.A.’s Troubadour Club, we’ll hear a live version of the song Elvis finished his incredible 1968 comeback special with and we’ll be dropping in on an epic club date, with the incredible Donny Hathaway, before we finish up this episode of In Concert, with a trip to London’s Lycian Theatre
Episode 5
The radio show where we hear the biggest stars in the history of music doing what they do best, performing live in concert. This episode begins with visit to LA’s legendary Troubadour Club, before we head off to London’s Royal Albert Hall, for an in concert performance from a show Leo was Musical Director for, for the great Bacharach & David. With trips to Madison Square Gardens, a club in 1960s London and an arena in Holland on the menu, this episode is another superb selection of ‘In Concert’ recordings.
Episode 6
We begin this episode of In Concert with a trip to one of New York’s great sporting arenas that also hosted some iconic musical performances before the bulldozers moved in relatively recently….we’ll stay in New York for a while, stopping by the Beacon Theatre to drop in on Willie Nelson’s 70th party gig, we’ll a superb live cover of a Van Morrison classic and we’ll then head over to Brussels to hear the brilliant Leanne La Havas – In Concert.
Episode 7
You know the drill by now – this radio series celebrates great voices and bands, captured In Concert. We’ll eavesdrop on an incredible night at New York’s Beacon Theatre with Aretha Franklin, before heading south to New Orleans to hear a woman from Leeds pay her tribute to the great Fats Domino. We’ll also visit a hotel in Las Vegas, a Blues club California, before heading back to Las Vegas – confused? Have a listen and all will be revealed !
Episode 8
Episode 8 of In Concert starts with a trip to Philadelphia, to hear a private gig from Aretha Franklin. Then we’ll pop back to a sunny London park, one afternoon in 2017 to hear one of the greatest pop songwriters, live In Concert, before heading across the pond once more, to hear Bonnie Raitt & Bryan Adams, live in concert in Oakland in the 1990s. There’s also a trip to the glamor of New York’s Copacabana in the 60s, before we sign off from this episode with a monumental live version of a song that Billy Joel had written in the mid 1970s, about a date, years in the future – the future date he chose, was 2017……
Episode 9
First stop in this episode of In Concert, is San Francisco in 1969, to hear Tina and Ike Turner tearing up a small club called Basin Street West. Then we’ll travel to the great Newport Jazz Festival to check in on Ray Charles, before heading back to New York’s Madison Square Garden, one sweltering Summer night in 2000 to hear one of the great songwriters live in concert, with a truly epic performance of song that features Leo’s much missed friend, the great Clarence Clemons.
Episode 10
This episode of the radio the show where, we enjoy some of the greatest artists of all time performing live in concert begins with a trip to London’s West End, one summer’s evening of 1968. This episode also features visits to the West Coast of America, to hear the great Joni Mitchell live In Concert, we’ll drop in on an historic evening where Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson performed together, singing each other’s songs. We’ll hear from Frank Sinatra’s opening act in Vegas, one night back in 1966, just before we hear a live session from London in 1972 with the great Chris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge. Then we’ll visit the legendary site, or perhaps the most unlikely sites for a legendary UK venue – a clubhouse on the site of a disused sewage plant in a small Yorkshire market town that played host to one of the greatest singer songwriters of americana music that ever lived, from Louis Armstrong to The Bee Gees and in May of 1969, it was where Roy Orbison headed to, to record a live album.
Episode 11
This episode of the radio show where we drop in on some of the great venues around the world to hear some of the greatest artists in their natural environment performing live, begins with a song from the best-selling live album of all time. The late great George Michael will serenade us, live at London’s Royal Albert Hall and we’ll also hear Rod Stewart, Lady Gaga and Ella Fitzgerald In Concert from venues around the world.
Episode 12
The radio show where we drop in on live venues around the world to hear some of the biggest stars in action, begins with a performance from one of the biggest venues in the UK. We’ll pop in to the legendary No Nukes Awareness concert of 1979 to hear James Taylor jamming with the Doobie Brothers. Then it’s a trip to Manila, West Hollywood before Bruce Springsteen wraps things up for us, with an incredible performance, In Concert.
